Updating Firmware with Cura
Updating Firmware with Cura
Description:
THIS SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IF ADVISED BY AN AIRWOLF 3D TECHNICAL ASSISTANT OR WHEN UPGRADING TO A DIFFERENT HOT END.

- JRx to JR2x
This solution discusses the steps needed to update the firmware on our HD printers. When installing the JRx, updating to the correct firmware will allow your hot end to reach 315C. When installing the JR2x, updating the correct firmware will allow your hot end to reach 315C and print with 2 nozzles. Once the new hot end has been installed, then it is time to update the firmware.
Process:
1) Find the correct firmware. This will be determined by the type of hot end that is being installed and the current threaded Z-rod on the printer. The diameters will either be 10mm or 12mm in diameter. The 10mm threaded Z-rod has a 2mm pitch. The 12mm threaded Z-rod has a 3mm pitch. In each Dropbox link, there is a firmware folder. Navigate to the folder appropriate for your printer (based on printer model, z-rod, and hot end) and open the HEX folder. Download the .hex file.

2) Plug in your printer and turn it on. Connect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.
—
3) Open up Cura. Click “Machine” on the menu bar and click “Install custom firmware…”
—
4) Navigate to the .hex file you downloaded from the Dropbox in step 1 and open it.
—
5) Click “OK” if a notification pops up regarding updating RepRap with Cura.
—
6) Once it says the firmware has been updated successfully, the Viki LCD screen should read the correct printer model. If the JRx (single) hot end has been installed, the LCD screen should read “Airwolf HDx Ready”. If the JR2x hot end has been installed, the LCD should read “Airwolf HD2x Ready”. Go into the VIKI and select “Preheat PLA” to test the newly installed hot end. This will heat the nozzle and bed and turn the fans on.
Troubleshooting:
- Min-Temp Error:Â The Min-Temp error will appear when there is an issue with the thermistors [the devices that read the temperatures of the nozzle(s) and bed]. There are 4 ports for thermistors pictured below. The gray/purple port is for nozzle 1. The orange/yellow port is for nozzle 2:
