ocMaker Challenge 2015 and STEM Showcase

Join us at ocMaker Challenge 2015

Join us April 24th through the 26th at the OC Fair and Event center to witness the ocMaker Challenge 2015 and STEM/STEAM showcase brought to you by Vital Link, OC Fair Imaginology, and Airwolf 3D. The 2015 STEM & the Arts Career Showcase is a collaboration of corporate, education, and non-profit sponsors and exhibitors who come together to create an engaging and interactive career exploration experience emphasizing careers in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and the arts . The showcase, to be held in partnership with OC Fair Imaginology, is focused on providing middle school, high school, and college aged students with opportunities to explore, discover, and connect to their future careers.

The ocMaker Challenge tasks students with designing, building, or significantly repurposing a product that will solve a problem, need, or want. Participants of ocMaker Challenge 2015 work collaboratively to design and produce a 3D printed object and then create a video advertisement “pitching” their ideas to a panel of judges. This approach teaches students to consider all aspects of the product development lifecycle and enhances their ability to think critically about complex systems.

Airwolf 3D furnished awards for the winners of the ocMaker Challenge and our own Erick Wolf will serve on the board of judges. Participants of the contest will consist of groups from 2 to 5 members and will be scored based upon (1) their description of a problem, (2) their proposed solution, (3) originality of the solution, (4) and organization of their presentation. All projects must be original creations that were designed specifically for the Maker Challenge and must make use of 3D modeling software and 3D printed parts.

Read on to see how this innovative approach to education has prepared the next generation of makers to innovate the products and services of tomorrow. The STEM showcase can viewed from April 24th through the 26th, and the ocMaker Challenge ceremony can be seen between the hours of 12:00 to 1:00pm on Sunday and are immediately followed by the awards ceremony from 1:00 to 1:30pm. Admission is free, but parking costs $7.00. We hope to see you there!
